It’s been over a year since we last posted to the site. In that year, we saw many improvements to WMATA‘s MetroAccess service, and although problems still existed, we felt that the efforts towards accessibility by Christian Kent and Selene Faer Dalton-Kumins at WMATA were going to pay off.
Unfortunately, we’ve found in recent times that WMATA appears to be backsliding in the quality of accessibility for its disabled customers. This has become evident both on fixed-route transit (MetroBus, MetroRail), and MetroAccess, the Metro DC area’s paratransit service operated by MV Transit. Read more... We have been working recently on upgrading both the server the site (and Ride-track) is hosted on, and the software that drives the news section.
Unfortunately, in the process of moving the data over, some of it has been lost. We’re working to recover the lost information from the old server, and will replicate it here when we have located the missing data.
In the meantime, Ride Track is unavailable, and some information posts to the news section are absent.

Due to work commitments, DC ParaTransit Info staff took time away from the site. During that time, the bane of the Internet, spammers, managed to abuse the features of the site.
At the same time, it seems that several of the gains the MetroAccess ridership made at the beginning of the year after much struggling have been eroded with lack of attention.
To rectify the first problem, we have begun redesigning the site, removing the ability of spammers to deface the site. To help address the second, we are now making sure that the site will have sufficient coverage through adding additional authors to keep the ridership appraised of issues surrounding this vital service, as well as paratransit issues in general in the Metropolitan Washington DC area. Well, here we are again.
We had hoped that there wouldn’t be any further need for this site after MV Transportation took over the MetroAccess contract at the start of 2006. Unfortunately, it appears the need still exists.
This time, we’re planning on doing things a little differently, learning from our experience running this site previously. One of the biggest problems encountered by the community whilst Logisticare had the contract was rebutting the figures they were giving WMATA.
