WMATA announced today that they have expanded the use of the IVR notification system to call a day in advance of scheduled trips as a reminder.

This was mentioned not so long ago in a mailshot sent out by MetroAccess, which might be the mailshot that we received an empty envelope for recently.

The mailshot allows riders to “opt out” of the IVR calls system, or to route the calls to their cell phones first, and gives them the opportunity to make sure the information about the rider’s telephone numbers on file with MetroAccess is correct.

Mr Jon Monson, CEO of MV Transportation, provided DC ParaTransit Info with a copy of this mailshot to republish here, so that riders who may not have received the mailshot have an opportunity to read it, and to send in the attached form if they need to correct the information, or use the “opt out”.

We would suggest however that riders be given the option to opt-out of either the reminder call, or the “your ride is here” call, rather than, as it looks to us, be either both or neither. Riders with subscription trips might not need the reminder call, but still find the “Your ride is here” call useful.
